Hooker night at LifeSchoolHouse: East Hants

By November 28, 2019 No Comments

I met Candi Hauser through my day job a few years ago, and her infectious spirit has always been something I’m drawn to. She operates the LifeSchoolHouse: East Hants Chapter, and finally we were able to connect on a creative level.

Also-if you have a strip holder from my shop, Candi made it!

Without butchering what LifeSchoolHouse does too much, it’s essentially a network of community, where different hosts come in, share their knowledge, and everything operates on the barter and exchange program.

This was my second time doing small beginner rug hooking kits and for two times in a row, the event has sold out. This time, we focused on a small snow man face ornament! I had 11 willing people sign up.

Another important aspect of the LifeSchoolHouse is being resourceful, so all of the kits were made out of recycled materials. Burlap came from the sack my Briggs and Little orders arrive in and the wool was 100 per cent recycled.

Hand-drawn snow man faces are always a cute ornament!

I took the time to start the outline for them to give a sense of hoop height and spacing.

It’s always such a fun night. We had people local from East Hants as well as lots who traveled in from neighbouring communities.

They took right to it and were hard at work all evening.

Many even finished!

Now for the fun part, as the host, I’m paid in things they thing are worth the value of the trade.

I. got. spoiled.

home made preserves, salsas, fresh eggs, coffee, fudge, chocolates, candles, baked goods, herbs…. I could go on! It is such a fun night getting to know people and connecting!

The fudge didn’t make it past my partner, Patrick, and this morning I had an omelette made with those delicious fresh eggs topped with home made salsa! So dang good.

Thank you to the 11 ladies who came out and spoiled me!
